Stöhr, Illner, Riedl (SIR) 1982, Igelsdorf (GE058) - $9,995 Canadian

Stöhr, Illner, Riedl (SIR) was a collaboration of three members of historic German violin-making families who pooled knowledge and resources in order to open a workshop with the goal of producing fine quality string instruments. They were located in Igelsdorf, close to Bubenreuth which became the centre of the German violin-making industry following the exodus of German craftsmen after WW2 from the Sudetenland and East Germany.

SIR instruments are reliably very good; they are well made using good materials and their makers have a deep knowledge of the affect of their work on tone. They can be found in the hands of many European professional musicians. The workshop had also built a successful export business.

This cello was made in 1982 and is in fine condition with no significant repairs. It has matured nicely and offers a lovely tone with plenty of resonance and projection. It has been fitted with a new set of Kaplan strings and a Wittner tailpiece.

The length of back is 750mm, high resolution photos available on request.
