French 1/3 Child’s Cello c.1900 (FR036) - $3,750 Canadian

If you are the parent of a young aspiring cellist who values beautiful, resonant tone as much as technical development, this exceptional 1/3 cello may be exactly what they need.

Crafted in Mirecourt, France around the turn of the 20th century, this instrument bears remnants of a label now rendered illegible by age. It was likely produced in one of the prominent French workshops of that era—either Jérôme Thibouville-Lamy or Laberte-Humbert.

These workshops were renowned for their quality. Drawing on generations of violin-making expertise, superior materials, highly skilled craftsmen, and innovative manufacturing processes, they produced instruments that were exceptional for their time. Today, their finer examples are eagerly sought by both players and collectors.

This charming cello produces an astonishingly full sound that belies its modest size. Played alongside a modern factory instrument of comparable dimensions, the difference in tonal quality and projection would be immediately apparent, even to the untrained ear.

If your young cellist's studies include solo recitals or performances where presence and projection matter, this instrument deserves serious consideration.

The length of back is 625mm, high resolution photos available on request.
