German 1/3 Sized Child's Cello c.1890 (GE065) - $3,950 Canadian

This is a nicely restored, quality German child's cello dating from the late 1800s, likely hailing from the Markneukirchen region, the prominent violin-making center of that era.

The instrument is well made using quality tonewoods, suggesting it was originally owned by a wealthier family. As is still true today, young students were typically introduced to music on lower-cost, student-grade instruments; a cello of this caliber was generally reserved for the children of well-to-do families.

Most lower-grade fractional cellos have been lost to time, as they simply aren't worth the cost of repair and restoration. This one, however, was of sufficient quality to warrant a proper restoration, carried out some years ago. The result is a fine little instrument well suited to an advancing young cellist.

The cello produces a volume of sound that belies its size, is well set up with Helicore strings, and has an engaging tone.

It is accompanied by a ½-size cello bow.

The length of back is 615mm. High resolution photos available on request.
