Erich Werner, Bubenreuth, Germany 1986 (GE60) - $8,900 Canadian

This cello was the 2nd instrument of a highly talented cellist; a Julliard and National Youth Orchestra alumnus. It was made in the workshop of Erich Werner, a German master luthier who worked in Bubenreuth in the latter part of the 20th century. Bubenreuth became the centre of the German violin-making industry following the exodus of German craftsmen from the Sudetenland and East Germany after WW2.

This instrument is very nicely made and in great condition with no repairs. It features Werner’s choice of clear varnish over a light amber/orange color and his signature large button. It is labeled and signed by the maker.

It is fitted with a combination of Larsen Original treble and Jargar Classic bass strings. The sound is definitely on the dark and warm end of the spectrum. The cello is even, resonant and easy to play.

In my opinion, this era of Bubenreuth cellos offers exceptional value for the cellist and this instrument would solidly support a student through their university studies.

The length of back is 752mm, high resolution photos available on request.
